\"smcwgbr14-n_product\"<\/a> Hace unos d\u00edas SmallNetBuilder<\/a> publico una interesante review del router 802.11N para el hogar de alta gama SMCWGBR14-N<\/a><\/p>\n

En resumidas cuentas nos dicen que el SMC Networks SMCWGBR14-N<\/font><\/a> es un clon del Trendnet TEW-633GR con el a\u00f1adido de un puerto USB para impresoras multifunci\u00f3n \/ scanners (que claro esta tambi\u00e9n se puede utilizar para impresoras normales).<\/p>\n

SMC es propiedad de Acton, uno de los principales fabricantes reales de networking. Y digo reales, porque ahora ya hay muy pocos fabricantes que realmente fabriquen sus equipos. Por lo que quiz\u00e1s Acton fabricase este equipo a Trendnet anteriormente, y ahora lo este comercializando bajo su propia marca.<\/p>\n

Como pros la gente de SmallNetBuilder destaca los puertos Gigabit WAN y LAN, y la velocidad de enrutamiento, as\u00ed como el soporte para tramas jumbo<\/a>. Adem\u00e1s se encuentra en en el top de la categor\u00eda de sesiones simult\u00e1neas<\/a> en las comparativas que ellos mismos hacen, trae WDS tanto bridging como repetidor y le destacan tambi\u00e9n el puerto USB para impresoras multifunci\u00f3n \/ scanners que incorpora.<\/p>\n

Como pegas le encuentran un rango de cobertura no demasiado bueno, un rendimiento variable, y que la tarjeta de su misma familia no soporta adecuadamente el WPS<\/p>\n

Como conclusi\u00f3n la gente de SmallNetBuilder indica que si el equipo es un clon de una marca mas conoc\u00eda Trendnet, el equipo debe por lo menos ser mas barato que este para serle atractivo al publico. Pero aqu\u00ed en Espa\u00f1a las cosas son distintas. La marca mas conoc\u00eda es SMC (que por otra parte es el fabricante real), y adem\u00e1s en nuestro pa\u00eds el precio mas econ\u00f3mico es para el SMC, incluso por debajo del modelo de Trendnet<\/p>\n

Closing Thoughts<\/p>\n

If a product is going to be a clone of a better-known brand, it needs to bring something to the table to attract buyers. Somtime it’s availability or maybe a unique feature. But most often it’s price.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

In SMC’s case, it has taken the \u00abunique feature\u00bb route with the SMCWGBR14-N, with the multi-function print and scanner server. But while the print server feature worked, I didn’t have any luck with the scanner sharing.<\/p>\n

I was surprised, however, that SMC is not trying to lead, or at least be competitive on price. In fact, the 14-N is the highest priced<\/i> of the three products, as shown in Table 2 below. Note that I have removed a few way-above-range prices for the D-Link and Trendnet products, but in included all SMC’s vendors, whose prices are more tightly grouped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

To sum up, when you pair the 14-N with a decent client , preferably Atheros-based, I would expect its wireless performance to be the same as the Trendnet TEW-633GR, because the two are really the same OEM’d product. <\/p>\n

But with a higher price than the market leading DIR-655, riskier thermal design (no heatsinks or thermal pads on the CPU or gigabit Ethernet switch) and more limited availability, I’m afraid that the SMCWGBR14-N really doesn’t provide any reason to recommend it over its better known or less-expensive alternatives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
